"Nico's Weg" Film Review

 

Hello! Today i’m going to review a German film “Nico’s” Weg. This film makes us learn German in interesting and fun way.

For a short story, A young man named Nico, who loses everything including his passport, bag, aunt’s address and more. He knows nothing about German and he has to master its language and cultures to survive with the help of a young woman named Lisa and her niece named Emma

Summary

The story happens when there’s a guy named Nico who’s roaming around at the airport where he doesn’t know nothing about German including its language which is why he’s listening to a language course in his headphone. Suddenly, there’s a little girl appeared and said his bag is cool. He was talking to her for awhile until there’s a woman named Lisa. she walked toward and apologised for her niece just in case if she’s behaving bad to Nico. The next moment, he left the airport and began to observe around him and he met the little girl and Lisa again as they were playing bubbles. He joined them as he left his bag. While he’s playing bubbles with  them, he started to realised that his bag is gone because the taxi driver mistaken Nico’s bag as the passenger’s bag so he loaded them into his car. His passport, aunt’s address are in the bag so he’s in a big trouble. Lisa offered to help him. As he doesn’t know much about German, Lisa started to ask him questions in english, Nico told her why he came to Germany and she gives him a ride to town. 

As she’s driving, the little girl and Nico are sitting in the backseat. The little girl arranged the alphabet cookies to form her name “Emma” and Nico also arranged it into his name “Nico”. Emma noticed that he barely speaks German which is why Emma taught him how to introduce himself in German with alphabet cookies and she also said that Lisa is her aunt not her mother. And Lisa also started to help Nico to speak German little by little. The next moment, Lisa’s car stopped at the gas station to fill gas. While waiting, Nico recognised the taxi driver who accidentally grabbed his bag and left, he rushed out to stopped his taxi car and asked about his bag. Lisa as she’s witnessing the situation, she ran to Nico and apologised to the angry taxi driver. While she’s introducing her name and Nico’s, Nico opened the taxi trunk and found nothing. He started to get up as he continues his trip with Lisa and Emma but as Lisa about to drove off, she met her friend named Max. Max asked Nico who he is and where came from. Nico also lowkey learnt more about German. Lisa told Max about Nico’s problem. Max has an idea that they should contact to police and coincidentally Lisa’s father is a policeman so she immediately called him. He said that he will try to help Nico. They started to plan to go to police station to help Nico

But before they go to the police station, Lisa has to drive to Emma’s Friend’s birthday. Lisa led Emma to her friend’s door, Nico’s waiting in a car and listening to the radio. All of sudden there’s somebody stated their bag is missing in the radio. Nico took Lisa’s phone and called the radio station. He tried to explain that his bag is missing too. Meanwhile Lisa is exchanging numbers with Lotte’s, she heard Nico’s voice talking on the radio. She ran to Nico, grabbed the phone and explained the problem again. 

They went to the police station and do some business there. Since Nico doesn’t know anything about his passport, his Aunt’s address. All he knows that she owns a bicycle shop. After that, they went to Lisa’s apartment where Nico met Lisa’s roommates, Sebastian and Nina. They were hanging fairy light in the yard at that time, Lisa asked them if Nico could stay here for few days. They have no problem with it. As they’s having a party, they also try to looking for Nico’s aunt shop. When Nico shows Nina and Sebastian the photo of his aunt, Sebastian has the idea to post the photo online and see if anyone recognizes the bicycle shop. The next morning, Lisa is in a rush and she promised Nico to hunt her aunt after she finished her work.  And their adventure continues, as their goal is getting closer and closer to find Nico’s Aunt shop with a little plot twist at the end

Review

In my opinion, this film has become one of my favourite film. Nico as a helpless man who doesn’t know what to do in foreign country which is Germany. He had to learn about its language, cultures etc. The plot is really good, exciting and really teach us more about Germany. The vocabulary they used isn’t difficult and really easy to understand. I would rate this 8.5/10, totally want to watch it again and next time i’m going to watch with my family since they’re also interested in German.
